Was it right for David and Solomon to have many wives?

The answer is no. Mormons as well as some other cults use this to practice polygamy. They are sadly mistaken. Whenever you read about the many wives that David and Solomon or anyone else had, the Bible is just giving you a historical fact and not a permission to do it. Satan is mentioned in the Bible, but that does not mean we are to be like Satan. The Bible gives us the good, the bad, and the ugly. David and Solomon were just as much sinners as all of us are. As a matter of fact they disobeyed God's commandment in Deuteronomy 17:17 concerning a king that says, "Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold." So the confusion is gone when we distinguish the difference between a commandment and a historical fact.
