The Cookie Jar: Controversial Topics

What does it mean to be "blotted out" of the Book of Life?

In order to answer this we must set aside any traditional teachings that have no strong foundation based upon the Word of God. To be short and simple, it seems that the Biblical teaching concerning the Book of Life is that everyone who comes into existence is already in it. It is the list of names of everyone who Christ died for. We know that Jesus Christ died for everyone. But on the other hand, it is when people choose to reject Jesus Christ and die in their sins that they are then "blotted out." If you study the intercessory prayer that Moses did for his people in Exodus 32:32-33 this goes along with the same thing that Paul said of wishing himself to be lost if it would save his fellow kinsman in Romans 9:1-3. Also study Psalms 69:27-28 and Phillippians 4:3. In Revelation 3:5, it is Jesus who promises to "he that overcometh" that He will "not blot out his name out of the book of life." This explains how babies who die before accountability go to Heaven because they are already written (2 Samuel 12:23). We know that an "overcomer" described in various places in the book of Revelation is defined as someone who has genuinely placed trust in the Lord Jesus Christ in 1 John 5:5. This teaches us eternal security to the true believer that his name will not be blotted out. This also teaches total insecurity to the "make-believer" as well.
