The Cookie Jar: Controversial Topics

What does the Bible, as a whole, say about women pastors?

It is clear 1 Timothy 2:11-12 and 3:2 that a man is the only one who can pastor a church, but not just any man as the rest of chapter (3) indicates. The man must be qualified according to the standards that are mentioned. Confusion is brought to light when people refer to Deborah, a woman prophetess and judge, in Judges 5. This is not God giving the approval of women to have a position of authority, but reveals the apostasy of that time. Whenever men do not fulfill their purpose and start being a "sissy" as Deborah's husband Barak in Judges 5:8 was, God will use a woman to show men their folly and they are not getting the job done, although it is not the will of God. There are women in the Bible who are referred to as "prophetesses" and "deaconesses," but not as positions of authority. Out of the 66 books of the Bible, there are 2 books named after women which are Ruth and Esther. And let it be known that these two women were not feminists and they did not desire to have authority, yet they were tremendously used by God. God's effectual plan for a woman is described in Proverbs 31 and Titus 2:3-5.
